Description :
Steel wire mesh for soft foundation reinforcement is a new type of reinforced mesh made by first welding or weaving a single high-strength steel wire, and then coating the welded or woven steel wire mesh with a rust proof layer. It has the characteristics of high bidirectional strength, high joint strength, and high rigidity. It is an ideal material to replace welded geogrids. This is determined by the following factors:
(1) The joint strength (tensile, shear, tear, torsion) should be high, and the joint force transmission performance of the longitudinal and transverse ribs of the grid should be good, which can transmit the force received by the transverse ribs to the longitudinal ribs through the joint, and vice versa. Therefore, it is required that the joint must have good overall integrity, and the strength of the joint must be relatively close to the strength of the rib (without breaking at the joint during tensile testing), or the difference in strength between the two must be small in order to match, which is the most reasonable and economical. Otherwise, if the strength of the joint is much lower than that of the rib, the tensile strength of the high-strength rib cannot be fully exerted, resulting in structural irrationality and causing a "big horse pulling small car" waste.
(2) Grid ribs should have a total area as small as possible compared to their opening area in order to ensure a larger mechanical interlocking effect. In other words, the mesh holes should be able to engage as much soil as possible in order to fully utilize their interlocking effect. But the mesh size should not be too large, otherwise the stiffness of the ribs will decrease, which will actually reduce the biting force.
(3) The bars and ribs of the grille should be perpendicular to each other for more effective load transmission. If the two are not perpendicular, it will reduce the transmission effect of the load and result in poor reinforcement effect. This is different from pseudo grids (such as woven or composite welded). The nodes of the pseudo grid are woven or composite welded, with poor overall integrity and poor longitudinal and transverse force transmission.
The geogrid produced by ordinary weaving is made of high-strength synthetic material ribbons woven vertically and horizontally, also known as high-strength fiber geogrid. It is made of high-strength and low elongation polyester fiber or glass fiber as raw materials, and woven into a grid on a warp knitting machine. The ribs of this type of grille have high tensile strength, but the overall integrity of its false joints is poor. The joint strength is low, and the longitudinal and transverse force transmission performance is poor, resulting in poor performance of the joint in transmitting longitudinal and transverse forces. The dimensional stability and overall performance are relatively poor.
In summary, the structure, production process, materials, and combinations of steel wire mesh and two types of pseudo geogrids used for soft foundation reinforcement are different, and the strength testing methods are also different. However, in the application of geogrids for reinforcement design, great attention should be paid to these details, and their reliability and economy should be comprehensively considered. Only by selecting the type of reinforcement material suitable for the actual work site requirements can this new type of geogrid be effectively utilized.
