　　Li Shizhen was a medical and pharmaceutical expert in the Ming Dynasty. His book "Compendium of Materia Medica" is a highly influential medical work. Of course, there are many outrageous treatment methods in this book, which is also limited by the historical conditions at that time, so there are many flaws. Many modern publications have deleted the absurd parts and left the reasonable parts.

　　In recent years, there has been a heated discussion in China about the usefulness of traditional Chinese medicine, mainly divided into two factions: the pro traditional Chinese medicine faction and the anti traditional Chinese medicine faction. Leaving aside the question of whether traditional Chinese medicine is actually useful, one thing that can be affirmed is that traditional Chinese medicine is a culture that has been continuously developing for thousands of years, and there must be its rationality that cannot be denied.

　　Li Shizhen, along with Sun Simiao, Zhang Zhongjing, Hua Tuo, and others, is known as one of the top ten famous doctors in China. However, the process of Li Shizhen's work on the Compendium of Materia Medica was also very tortuous and arduous. Unfortunately, Li Shizhen did not personally witness the publication of this monumental work that he devoted his entire life to. In the early autumn of 1593, when this 75 year old man passed away, the Compendium of Materia Medica was still being engraved in Nanjing by bookseller Hu Chenglong and others, and it was not until three years later that the book was printed.
