Description :

Why are the wooden blocks used in construction prone to cracking
We need to first understand the forms of cracking in building timber! It is mainly divided into four types: internal cracking, surface cracking, end cracking, and wheel cracking. Next, we need to understand these four forms of cracking and the specific reasons that lead to cracking!
1. Internal cracking: Internal cracking, also known as honeycomb cracking, refers to the internal cracks that occur during the storage period of building timber after drying, which can be judged by the depressions on the surface of the building timber.
2. Wheel cracking: Cracks extend along the growth rings and are caused by strong internal tension.
3. End cracking: End cracking, also known as end face cracking, occurs on the end face of wood or extends to one or both sides of the end. If it is on both sides, it is called splitting. When the water conductivity of the building wood in the longitudinal direction is greater than that in the transverse direction, this situation will occur during the drying process of the wood.
4. Surface cracking: refers to the formation of cracks on the surface. Wooden cracks in buildings are usually on the chord surface and often crack radially. When the building timber is dried, the water evaporates and the surface moisture content of the building timber decreases below the fiber saturation point.
