Description :
LNG low-temperature storage tanks are familiar to everyone. Low temperature storage tanks, also known as liquid nitrogen tanks, are vertical or horizontal double-layer vacuum insulated storage tanks. However, few people know the characteristics of the components of low-temperature storage tanks. Today, let's take a look at the characteristics of each component of LNG low-temperature storage tanks.
1. Inner tank wall
The inner tank wall is the main component of low-temperature storage tanks, welded from steel plates that are resistant to low temperatures and have good mechanical properties. Generally, special steels such as A5372 grade, A516 Gr.60, Gr18Ni9, ASME 304 are selected.
2. Cold insulation layer
Tank wall insulation
Polyurethane foam is sprayed on the inner side of the lining plate of the outer tank. Generally, the thermal conductivity of polyurethane foam is required to be ≤ 0.03 W/(m · K), the density is 40~60 kg/m3, and the thickness is about 150 mm.

Tank top insulation
The inner tank roof adopts a suspended rock wool insulation layer. For example, a certain tank roof is equipped with 4 layers of glass fiber insulation layers, each layer is 100 mm thick, with a density of 16 kg/m3 and a thermal conductivity of 0.04 W/(m · K).
Cold insulation at the bottom of the tank
The cold insulation of the tank bottom is complex. In addition to the polyurethane foam sprayed under the steel plate, the waterproof structure should be designed. The following figure shows the cold insulation structure at the bottom of a certain tank, including a 65mm thick cushion layer, 60mm thick dense concrete, 2mm thick waterproof felt, 2 layers of 100mm thick foam glass each, and then covered with 70mm thick concrete to protect the outer tank concrete from the influence of low temperature.
3. Concrete outer tank
The concrete outer tank wall and outer tank roof are composed of prestressed reinforced concrete and low-temperature resistant steel lining plates. The concrete strength should be ≥ 25 MPa. The top and walls of the outer tank should be able to withstand the internal pressure caused by accidental gas leakage, therefore, reinforced concrete should have sufficient tensile strength.
For large storage tanks, in order to balance the stress on the prestressed concrete tank wall, the design method of equal strength but unequal thickness or equal thickness but unequal strength can be adopted.
