When the armature moves, the magnetic resistance of the air gap in the magnetic circuit changes, causing a change in coil inductance. This change in inductance corresponds to the position of the armature, that is, the size of the air gap. Therefore, as long as the change in inductance can be measured, the magnitude of the displacement of the armature can be determined. Inductive sensors are made based on this principle.
