      1. What is odor

      The so-called odor refers to substances that float in the air, have a molecular weight of less than 300, are mainly organic matter, soluble in water and lipids.

      2. Odor detection

      XP-329IIR uses unique sensor technology to digitize the intensity of odors and make them visible to humans. Although the human sense of smell can perceive low concentrations of odors, it is influenced by uncertain factors such as individual differences, physical conditions, olfactory fatigue, and odor adaptability. Therefore, the evaluation of odors requires multiple olfactory discriminators and takes a lot of time.

      The definition of odor index in odor prevention law is "a value obtained by multiplying the dilution factor by 10 when using odorless air to dilute until no odor is felt". Specifically, the three-point comparative odor bag method is used, which is called the panel test subject sniffing three pre prepared bags, selecting one bag containing odor, and slowly diluting it with odorless air until the bag containing odor cannot be smelled. The dilution factor represents the concentration of odor. The dilution ratio is called odor concentration. Take the logarithm of the odor concentration and multiply it by 10 to obtain the odor index. The conversion formula is,

      Odor index=10 × 10g odor concentration.

      The INDEX of this device displays the odor index value equivalent to the odor measurement method.

      Odor Index Conversion Table (INDEX 1, 2, 3)

      Odors include those that can detect extremely low concentrations of odor, as well as other odors such as fragrance. Not all odors can be simply converted to an odor index of 20 when the level value is 1000. Therefore, separate conversion tables must be created for each odor, indicating the odor index [equivalent value] that matches the odor. The so-called odor index conversion table refers to a conversion table that converts the data measured by odor sensors in grades into a value equivalent to the odor index of the olfactory measurement method.

      The odor index conversion table is used to calculate the odor index ※ of the odor to be measured. Based on this, odorless air is used to dilute the odor and calculate the odor index. At the same time, the level value of the odor sensor is used to measure and create a conversion table.
