Description :
The main reason for the performance degradation of reverse osmosis membranes is due to surface contamination, such as surface scaling and membrane blockage; Or it may be caused by physical and chemical changes in the membrane itself. The physical changes are mainly caused by the compaction effect, which leads to a decrease in the permeability of the membrane; Chemical changes are mainly caused by fluctuations in pH value, such as hydrolysis of cellulose acetate membrane; Free chlorine can also deteriorate the performance of aromatic polyamide membranes. The main reason for fouling and blockage of reverse osmosis membranes is due to membrane surface deposition and microbial growth. Microorganisms not only block the membrane, but also have an erosive and damaging effect on cellulose acetate. Therefore, a certain amount of residual chlorine must be maintained inside the membrane, but if the residual chlorine is too high, it can cause a decrease in membrane performance. Therefore, residual chlorine should be maintained at 0.1-0.5mg/L before the cellulose acetate membrane, and less than 0.1mg/L before the aromatic polyamide membrane.

Reverse osmosis is a membrane separation technology that utilizes the function of selectively permeable (semi permeable) membranes with pressure as the driving force. When the pressure applied in the system is greater than the osmotic pressure of the inlet solution, water molecules continuously pass through the membrane, flow into the central pipe through the water production channel, and then impurities such as ions, organic matter, viruses, etc. in the effluent flow out at one end, which are trapped on the inlet side of the membrane and then flow out at the outlet end of the concentrated water, thus achieving the purpose of separation and purification.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a high-tech membrane separation technology driven by pressure difference, characterized by high separation efficiency, no phase change, and simplicity. The pore size of the reverse osmosis membrane has been reduced to nanometers (1nm=10-9m), and no "filtering" pores on the surface can be seen under scanning electron microscopy. At operating pressures higher than the osmotic pressure of the raw water, water molecules can reverse osmosis through the RO semi permeable membrane to produce pure water, while a large amount of inorganic ions, organic matter, colloids, microorganisms, pyrogen, etc. in the raw water are intercepted by the RO membrane.
