When condensed water flows into hole A in the drainage section, the valve plate is pushed open by the pressure of the condensed water. The water passes through the annular groove B and is discharged from the small hole opened downwards. During this flow process, due to the constant specific volume of condensed water, the air and condensed water are unobstructed, and the valve plate is normally open, continuously discharged. When steam enters, the valve plate is opened, and the steam flows from hole A under the valve plate to the outlet through groove B. Under the lower pressure at the outlet orifice, the steam specific volume increases sharply with the pressure drop, and the steam flow velocity under the valve plate increases sharply, causing the static pressure under the valve plate to decrease. At the same time, steam is forced to rush into the control chamber above the valve plate through the gap between the valve plate and the valve cover, establishing a sufficiently high pressure in the chamber and quickly closing the valve plate downwards to block steam. As the thermal power type steam trap can seal after the valve plate is closed, it can prevent the discharged condensed water from flowing back into the working pipe. Therefore, there is no need to install a check valve behind the thermal power type steam trap.
