Description :
Gas transmission pipeline: a pipeline that runs from the gas processing plant or starting point pressure station of the gas source to the gas distribution center, large users or gas storage facilities in major cities, as well as the interconnected pipelines between gas sources, transporting natural gas that has been processed and meets the quality standards of pipeline transportation. It is the main part of the entire gas transmission system. The diameter of gas transmission pipelines is larger than that of gas gathering pipelines and distribution pipelines. Currently, the diameter of a large gas transmission pipeline is 1420 millimeters. Natural gas is transported under pressure from the starting point compressor station and the compressor stations along the route, with a transmission pressure of 70-80 kilograms per square centimeter. The total length of the pipeline can reach thousands of kilometers.

Gas pipelines are made of steel pipes connected by electric welding. There are various types of steel pipes, including seamless pipes, spiral seam pipes, and straight seam pipes. Seamless pipes are suitable for pipes with a diameter of 529 millimeters or less, while spiral seam pipes and straight seam pipes are suitable for large-diameter pipes. The cross-sectional structure of the gathering and transmission pipeline is complex, consisting of an inner coating, steel pipe, outer insulation layer, and insulation (cold insulation) layer; Simply put, there are only steel pipes and outer insulation layers, while the inner wall coating and insulation (cold insulation) layer are determined based on the gas transmission process.

Steel pipe is the main material for pipelines. Natural gas transmission steel pipe is a relatively special metallurgical product formed by deep processing of plates (belts). The microstructure of pipeline steel varies among manufacturers due to differences in process technology. In the 1960s, X52 steel grade was generally used, X60 and X65 steel grades were used in the 1970s, and X70 steel was mainly used in the 1980s and 1990s. Some foreign countries have started using X80 steel for gas pipelines. With the continuous development of pipeline steel research, countries such as Canada have laid test sections of X100 and X120 pipeline steel. In the Jining connecting pipeline project, X80 grade pipeline steel was used in the 7.71km test section in China. The 4843km long West East Gas Pipeline 2 adopts X80 grade pipeline steel with a diameter of 1219mm, which increases the gas transmission pressure to 12Mpa. Generally speaking, X80 steel has a dual phase structure of ferrite and bainite, X100 pipeline steel has a bainite structure, and X120 pipeline steel has ultra-low carbon bainite and martensite. For natural gas pipeline materials, strength, toughness, and weldability are the three basic quality control indicators.
