      PC processing technology:

      1. Processing characteristics

      PC is an amorphous material, and its melt viscosity is temperature sensitive. Due to the hydrolysis of PC at high temperatures, the quality of the product is sensitive to the moisture content of the raw materials. Before forming, the raw materials must be dried to less than 0.02%. PC can be processed by injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, and casting, as well as by bonding, welding, and cold processing.

      2. Injection molding process

      (1) Processing of plastics

      PC has a high water absorption rate, so it must be preheated and dried before processing. Pure PC is dried at 120 ℃, while modified PC is generally dried at 110 ℃ for more than 4 hours. The drying time cannot exceed 10 hours. Generally, the air extrusion method can be used to determine whether the drying is sufficient. The proportion of recycled materials can reach 20%. In some cases, 100% recycled materials can be used, and the actual amount depends on the quality requirements of the product. Recycled materials cannot be mixed with different color masterbatch at the same time, otherwise it will seriously damage the properties of the finished product.

      (2) Selection of Injection Molding Machines

      Due to cost and other reasons, PC products nowadays often use modified materials, especially electrical products, which also need to increase fire resistance. When forming flame-retardant PC and other plastic alloy products, the requirements for the plasticizing system of the injection molding machine are good mixing and corrosion resistance. Conventional plasticizing screws are difficult to achieve, so it is necessary to specify in advance when purchasing.

      (3) Mold and Gate Design

      The common mold temperature is 80-100 ℃, and adding fiberglass is 100-130 ℃. For small products, needle shaped gates can be used, and the depth of the gate should be 70% of the thickest part. Other gates have circular and rectangular shapes. The larger the gate, the better to reduce defects caused by excessive cutting of plastic. The depth of the exhaust hole should be less than 0.03~0.06mm, and the flow channel should be as short and circular as possible. The demolding slope is generally around 30 '~1 °.

      (4) Melt glue temperature

      The air injection method can be used to determine the processing temperature. The general processing temperature for PC is 270-320 ℃, and for some modified or low molecular weight PCs it is 230-270 ℃.

      (5) Injection speed

      It is common to use faster injection speeds for molding, such as for electrical switch components. Commonly referred to as slow speed → rapid prototyping.

      (6) Back pressure

      A back pressure of around 10 bar can be appropriately reduced without air pockets.

      (7) Retention time

      Staying at high temperatures for too long can cause material degradation, release CO2, and turn yellow. Do not use LDPE, POM, ABS or PA to clean the barrel. Apply PS cleaning.

      (8) Precautions

      Some modified PCs are prone to producing dark brown liquid bubbles due to excessive recycling (reduced molecular weight) or uneven mixing of various components.
