What should be paid attention to when producing polycarbonate products?
Raw material drying
PC plastics, even when exposed to very low levels of moisture, can undergo hydrolysis to break bonds, reduce molecular weight, and decrease physical strength. Therefore, before the molding process, the moisture content of polycarbonate should be strictly controlled below 0.02% to avoid a decrease in mechanical strength or abnormal appearance such as bubbles and silver lines on the surface of the molded product.
PC is extremely sensitive to water, so it must be thoroughly dried before injection molding to reduce its moisture content to below 0.02%. The general drying conditions for PC are 100-120 ℃ for at least 4 hours;
Injection temperature
The injection temperature must take into account the shape, size, and mold structure of the product. The product performance, requirements, and other aspects must be considered before making a decision.
Generally, the temperature between 270~320 ℃ is selected for molding. If the material temperature exceeds 340 ℃, PC will decompose, the color of the product will darken, and defects such as silver wires, dark stripes, black spots, and bubbles will appear on the surface. At the same time, the physical and mechanical properties will also significantly decrease.
PC is also sensitive to temperature, and the viscosity of the melt decreases significantly with increasing temperature. The temperature of the barrel should be between 250~320 ℃ (not exceeding 350 ℃). Increasing the barrel temperature appropriately is beneficial for PC plasticization. If necessary, perform internal stress annealing at an oven temperature of 125~135 ℃ for 2 hours, and cool naturally to room temperature.
Injection pressure
The physical and mechanical properties, internal stress, and molding shrinkage of PC products have a certain impact on their appearance and demolding performance. Too low or too high injection pressure can cause certain defects in the products. Generally, the injection pressure is controlled between 80-120MPa. For products with thin walls, long processes, complex shapes, and small gates, a higher injection pressure (120-145MPa) is selected to overcome the resistance of melt flow and fill the mold cavity in a timely manner. Thus obtaining a complete and smooth surface product.
Poor fluidity, requiring high-pressure injection, but taking into account the large residual internal stress of the adhesive (which may cause cracking), injection speed: medium speed for wall thickness and high speed for wall thickness.
