      Performance of PC

      1. Physical and chemical properties

Pure polycarbonate resin is an amorphous, odorless, odorless, non-toxic, and transparent thermoplastic polymer with a molecular weight generally in the range of 20000-70000, a relative density of 1.18-1.20, a glass transition temperature of 140-150 ℃, and a melting range of 220-230 ℃. Polycarbonate has a certain degree of chemical corrosion resistance and excellent oil resistance. Due to its non crystalline nature, the intermolecular stacking of polycarbonate is not dense enough. Organic solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons can cause swelling or dissolution, which can easily lead to solvent cracking.

      2. Crystallinity

Bisphenol A-type polycarbonate has rigid polymer chains and difficult crystallization, and is generally an amorphous polymer. However, when the molecular weight is low, there is still a tendency for crystallization.

      3. Mechanical performance

Polycarbonate has excellent mechanical properties, particularly its impact strength and dimensional stability, which can maintain high mechanical strength over a wide temperature range; Its disadvantage is poor fatigue strength and wear resistance, and it is more prone to stress cracking.

      4. Thermal performance

Among general engineering plastics, polycarbonate has relatively good heat resistance, with a thermal decomposition temperature of over 300 ℃ and a long-term working temperature of up to 120 ℃. At the same time, it has good cold resistance, with a brittleness temperature as low as -100 ℃ and a long-term use temperature range of -60-120 ℃.

      5. Electrical performance

Polycarbonate has low molecular polarity, high glass transition temperature, and low water absorption, therefore it has excellent electrical insulation properties.

      6. Water absorption

Polycarbonate polymer chains are stacked with a large number of benzene rings and have low polarity. Its water absorption is relatively small among general engineering plastics and even all thermoplastic plastics

      7. Aging resistance and flame resistance

Polycarbonate has a strong ability to resist the degradation of its performance caused by climate factors, and its heat aging resistance is also quite good.

Polycarbonate is flammable, and its flame retardancy can be improved by adding certain flame retardant substances such as halides, antimony trioxide, magnesium hydroxide, phosphate esters, and red phosphorus to the matrix resin.
