Polycarbonate (PC) refers to a type of polymer with carbonate groups in its molecular chain. It can be classified into various types based on the structure of repeating units, such as aliphatic, aromatic, and aliphatic aromatic. However, so far, the mechanical properties of aliphatic and aliphatic aromatic polycarbonates are relatively low, which limits their application in engineering plastics.

Bisphenol A-type polycarbonate is an important component of aromatic polycarbonate, synthesized from bisphenol A and (COCl2). The most commonly used method now is the melt ester exchange method (synthesis of bisphenol A and diphenyl carbonate through ester exchange and condensation reactions). The rigidity of the polymer backbone gives it high strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability, but at the same time, it also causes defects such as high brittleness and weak elasticity. At the same time, the bisphenol A used in its synthesis method and produced after degradation is highly toxic to the human body.

The preparation of aliphatic polycarbonate by alternating copolymerization of CO2 and epoxides is a new approach in the field of PC synthesis, which has been extensively studied by numerous research groups both domestically and internationally. Polycyclohexene carbonate (PCHC) is a typical representative of it. Although PCHC has a high glass transition temperature (Tg>100 ° C), its low elongation at break and high brittleness hinder its application and development.
