1、 Product Introduction
PPA (Polyphthalamide) from American company Solvay (formerly Amoco) has a tensile strength that is 20% higher than nylon 6 and higher than nylon 66 under high temperature and high humidity conditions; The bending modulus of PPA material is 20% higher than that of nylon, with greater hardness and the ability to resist long-term tensile creep; Moreover, PPA has stronger resistance to gasoline, grease, and coolant than PA; A high-temperature resistant nylon material that can withstand sustained high temperatures up to 200 ℃ and maintain good dimensional stability.
Polyethylene is mainly divided into three categories: high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and low-density polyethylene (LDPE). On August 23, 2018, China imposed a 25% tariff on HDPE, LLDPE, and PP, which were previously subject to a 6.5% tariff. After this tax increase, American manufacturers are no longer able to export the specific grades of PE and PP mentioned above to China. (This tax increase did not affect LDPE.)
The export volume of PP from the United States to China is already very small, and the impact of tax increase is not significant. However, due to the timing of the imposition of tariffs coinciding with the peak production of new PE facilities in the United States, the impact of the tariffs on US PE producers is significant. These new devices use low-cost ethane as raw material, mainly for the production of HDPE and LLDPE. At the beginning of the factory construction, the cost-benefit accounting of American manufacturers was based on the assumption that a large portion of their products would be exported to China.
China accounts for about half of the global annual increase in PE. For a long time, American PE manufacturers have exported their products to China because they have sufficient cost advantages and are still profitable. After the imposition of tariffs, the profit from selling PE to China will definitely decrease, so American manufacturers must seek higher profit alternative markets.
