During the construction process of engineering buildings, detailed settlement observation of the building (as shown in Figure 1) is an important task. Settlement observation can directly reflect the characteristics and future development trends of local and overall settlement of the building. The quality of observation data measured at observation points directly affects the efficiency and quality of the entire construction project. Therefore, before conducting settlement observation work, it is necessary to scientifically arrange observation points based on the specific conditions of the building as a whole and locally. The number of observation points should be reasonably set according to the geological conditions of the building as a whole and locally, and the spacing between observation points is generally between 10-15 meters.






Observation points for building settlement
There are several factors we need to consider when deploying observation points:
Structure and shape of buildings
Different buildings have different structures and load-bearing bodies. Observation points should be placed on the actual load-bearing body in order to accurately reflect the settlement of the building. Buildings of different shapes exert varying pressures on their foundations, resulting in different settlements. For regular shapes, observation points should be arranged at the corners of the surrounding areas, as well as on both sides of settlement joints and main (skirt) buildings; For irregularly shaped buildings, the placement of observation points should be adjusted appropriately according to their characteristics. For example, in our common fan-shaped buildings, the placement of observation points can be reduced in areas with long curves, while in areas with short curves, the placement of observation points should be increased.
