The Quadrantid meteor shower, along with the Perseid meteor shower and the Geminid meteor shower, are collectively known as the "three major meteor showers in the Northern Hemisphere". Unlike typical meteor showers, the Quadrantid meteor shower, like the Geminid meteor shower, does not have a comet as its parent body, but rather an asteroid.
Liu Jie, Secretary General of the Tianjin Astronomical Society, introduced that as a relatively large meteor shower that arrives as scheduled at the end and beginning of the year, the period from December 28th to January 12th of the following year is the active period of the Quadrantid meteor shower, with a peak between January 3rd and 4th. The meteoroid velocity of this meteor shower is moderate, with many bright fireballs and a noticeable reddish color.
Astronomical forecasts show that the meteor shower will reach its peak around 22:30 on January 3, 2021, with a ZHR (hourly flux assuming the radiant point is located at the zenith) of approximately 110 meteors.
