      1. The types of building deformation measurement can be divided into two categories: settlement and displacement. The former requires the setting of settlement reference points (also known as elevation reference points), while the latter often requires the setting of displacement reference points (also known as plane reference points). For some applications, the use of satellite navigation positioning measurement technology (such as BDS, GPS, etc.) can simultaneously measure three-dimensional deformation. In this case, it is advisable to set reference points that meet the requirements of this specification for both settlement reference points and displacement reference points. If such reference points cannot be set, settlement reference points and displacement reference points should be set separately.

      The main purpose of setting the work base point is to facilitate each phase of large-scale deformation measurement projects. Due to the fact that the working base point is generally close to the building to be measured, a joint measurement between the working base point and the reference point should be carried out at the beginning of each deformation observation period, and then the working base point should be used to measure the monitoring points.

      The purpose of benchmark measurement and joint measurement between benchmark and working benchmark is to conduct stability check and analysis of benchmark, and provide support for determining monitoring points. For fourth-order deformation measurement, due to the low accuracy specified in the specifications, the accuracy of benchmark point measurement and joint measurement between benchmark point and working base point should be one level higher (i.e. using third-order accuracy), which is not difficult to achieve in practical operations. For special, first-class, second-class, and third-class deformation measurements, the accuracy level should not be lower than the selected settlement or displacement observation.
