      (1) The location setting of settlement observation points should be reasonable and closely related to the structural form and foundation treatment of the building. The usual method for determining settlement is (from the "Code for Deformation Measurement of Buildings"): ① For buildings with brick and concrete structures that use brick walls for load-bearing, settlement observation points should generally be set every 8-10 meters along the length of the wall, and should be set at the corners of the building's exterior walls, the junctions of longitudinal and transverse walls, the center of longitudinal and transverse walls, and on both sides of the building's settlement joints. ② Buildings with frame structures: Settlement observation points should be set at the upper part of each pile foundation or partial column foundation. ③ Two sides of the connection between the new building and the existing building should be set up. ④ Chimneys, water towers, oil tanks, and other similar structures should be symmetrically arranged along the perimeter.

      (2) The frequency and timing of settlement observation should be appropriate, such as for the secondary observation of brick and concrete structures, which should be conducted after the observation points are securely installed and the first floor is completed. Other structures of buildings can be referenced. (3) The base point for leveling measurement should be located away from the building under construction or undergo special treatment. Its location must be selected from relatively stable other buildings, rock foundations, and other appropriate parts, generally no less than 2. (4) The observation instruments and methods used for leveling measurement should pay attention to ① The precision leveling measuring instruments used should be inspected by the metrology department. ② The personnel and tools used for each observation should be relatively fixed. ③ Try to use the same observation route for each observation and conduct relevant inspections on site to ensure compliance with requirements. The difference between two observations at the same observation point shall not be greater than 1mm. (5) All relevant materials should be properly kept and archived for future reference.
