　　The design of the iconic venue for 2022, the National Speed Skating Oval, was selected through international competition. The three winning proposals are A01 from Schulitz Architectural Design Co., Ltd., A04 from Poplus Design Co., Ltd., and A12 from Harbin Institute of Technology Architectural Design and Research Institute. The final A04 plan was selected as the implementation plan.

　　The Bopless company, which won the competition, is known for designing sports architecture and has designed the main stadium for Sochi in 2014, Turin in 2006, and the main stadium for the 2012 London Olympics. The design concept of the National Speed Skating Oval comes from a creative idea that combines ice and speed. The "ice ribbon" is spun from low to high along the curved surface of the outer wall, like the circles of fast-moving tracks left by speed skaters when sliding at high speed. The ice is marked with ribbons, and 22 "ice ribbons" symbolize Beijing 2022.

　　Due to the fact that speed skating competitions must be conducted on the standard ice surface specified by the International Skating Federation, there must be 180 degree arcs at each end of the standard speed skating track, and the "ice ribbon" presents an elliptical plane and a "saddle shaped" shape. This design is dynamic and has a strong sense of the times, reflecting the speed and passion of ice sports. The center of the field and the stands will form a complete "package", providing a suitable competition venue and comfortable viewing space.

　　The "Ice Ribbon" hyperbolic saddle shaped roof has a long span of about 200 meters and a short span of about 130 meters, and is currently the largest single-layer bidirectional orthogonal saddle shaped cable mesh roof in sports venues around the world. The cable net scheme can present the most beautiful hyperbolic structure in terms of stress and shape, with only a quarter of the steel required for traditional steel roof structures, which meets the requirements of energy conservation, environmental protection, material conservation, and "green hosting".

　　The flowing "ice ribbon" curtain wall is printed with crystal clear ultra white glass glaze, creating a light and flowing ribbon effect. The ribbon is not only an important part of the curtain wall steel structure, but also plays a role in shading and energy conservation. The transparent tube set along the outer wall surface is equipped with colored light strips, which can create dynamic light strips of different colors.
