Referred to as a horizontal centrifuge, it mainly consists of a high-speed drum, a screw and differential that rotate in the same direction as the drum and have a slightly higher or lower speed than the drum. When the suspension to be separated enters the centrifuge drum, the high-speed rotating drum generates strong centrifugal force to settle solid particles with higher density than the liquid phase onto the inner wall of the drum. Due to the different rotational speeds of the spiral and the drum, there is a relative motion (i.e. speed difference) between the two. The relative motion between the spiral and the drum is used to push the solid phase deposited on the inner wall of the drum towards the outlet at the small end of the drum, and the separated clear liquid is discharged from the other end of the centrifuge. The function of the differential (gearbox) is to create a certain speed difference between the drum and the screw.
